Presented by Rivertown Film and Rockland Filmmakers. Discussion with Spencer Tunick moderated by Lynn Stein, Artistic Director at Rockland Center for the Arts

America’s in for a nude awakening. Documentarian Arlene Nelson follows artist Spencer Tunick as he stages temporary, public installations of naked people in small towns and cities across the United States.  This fascinating film chronicles his travels as he identifies strangers of all ages, religions, shapes, races and sizes in each of the 50 states willing to “take a leap of faith” as they challenge conventional ideas of nudity and privacy and become part of Spencer’s ambitious and life-affirming artistic vision.

Plus, a new, never screened in the US, short film will be shown before Naked States exclusively for this local screening

“You can laugh at the thought of 250 people naked, but when you actually see the piece or see the shape I’m forming with these people, a chill will go up and down your spine…you realize what you once laughed at is something very beautiful, something very organic…it’s a new way to use your body not as only a sex object or as (part of) a lifestyle but as an art object, which I think is something new.” – Spencer Tunick

Meet Rockland County artist Spencer Tunick, organizer of over 75 “human installations” involving thousands of volunteers and spanning all seven continents. He just recently completed an installation at the Dead Sea in which over 1,000 people posed naked to raise awareness of its possible disappearance:   http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1472842.stm .
