Join is for a post-screening discussion with dancer – choreographers Myrna Packer and Ze’eva Cohen, and choreographer/filmmaker Judy Lieff. A tribute to the unique art of legendary German choreographer Pina Bausch, who died in 2009. Wim Wenders’ tribute to Bausch and the dancers of the legendary Tanztheater Wuppertal is shockingly beautiful and moving, exhibiting a panorama of emotion from pure joy to severe aching. Surreal exterior settings and theatrical sets are crazily thrilling, and the dances are intense and joyful. 2011, Germany/France/UK, various languages with English subtitles, documentary, rated PG

“Whether you’re familiar with Pina Bausch’s work or not, the new film Pina is a knockout. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times

I watched the film in a sort of reverie. The dancers seemed particularly absorbed. They had performed these dances many times before, but always with Pina Bausch present. Now they were on their own, in homage.” – Roger Ebert, Chicago Sun-Times

Nominated for Best Documentary at the 2012 Academy Awards
