Short films by five acclaimed filmmakers:  Susanna Styron (House of Teeth), Deborah Kampmeier (Peel), Gabrielle Lasnsner (The Birch Grove), Suzanne Mitchell (Ed), and Jen Fineran (The Invisible World). Meet the Filmmakers: after the films there will be a discussion with the filmmakers, moderated by filmmaker, painter, and attorney, Susan Shapiro. Read their short bio’s and learn more about these filmmakers.

 

HOUSE OF TEETH, by Susanna Styron (2017, 25 minutes),
with Deborah Hedwall, Amanda Nichols, Stephen Bogardus, Michael Cullen, George Sherman.

Susanna Styron is a writer and a director. She wrote and directed the feature film Shadrach, the upcoming documentary Out of My Head, and episodes of numerous television series.

 

PEEL, by Deborah Kampmeier (2017, 16min), with Laura Piccoli and Olivia Stoker.

Two sisters provoke and resist betrayal and truth.

THE BIRCH GROVE, Gabrielle Lansner (2015, 20 min)

Caught between love and death, two brothers wrestle with their past in a dance towards reconciliation. A poetic film about the power of family ties, inspired by the novella of the same name by the Polish author, Jaroslaw Iwaszkiewicz.

Gabrielle Lansner is a critically acclaimed filmmaker and choreographer. The Birch Grove was featured at the Cannes Short Film Corner among many other national and international festivals.

 


ED, by Suzanne Mitchell (2017, 12 min).

A film about Rockland County’s Edward Simons: violinist, violin teacher, conductor, and inspiration. If activity level is a clue to ones age, then Simons is a young man at 100 years old.

Two-time Emmy winner Suzanne Mitchell is the director of the documentary Running Wild, has produced or directed many television programs, and has produced numerous documentaries for two-time Oscar winner Barbara Kopple. http://www.fullmotionpictures.com

 


THE INVISIBLE WORLD, by  Jen Fineran (2016, 13 min.)

A dogged artist travels to otherworldly dimensions filled with angels and demons in this short documentary about Rockland painter Mark Weiss. http://theinvisibleworldfilm.com/

Jen Fineran is known for editing Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry (for which Jen received an Emmy nomination), and producing and editing Student Academy Award winner, I Married My Family’s Killer
