“Sam Waymon Day” Proclaimed at Tribute

A capacity audience at Rivertown Film’s Tribute to Sam Waymon on February 16, 2013, heard Sam Waymon and the New School Band and learned about Mr. Waymon’s contributions to music, film, local history and black culture. Adding to the evening were Ellen Jaffee, New York State Assemblywoman, who presented Mr. Waymon with a Citation acknowledging his contributions Rockland County and inviting him to Albany; Harriet Cornell, Chairwoman of the Legislature of Rockland County, who gave him a Proclamation from the Rockland Legislature officially naming February 16 “Sam Waymon Day” in Rockland County; Louise Parker, Nyack Village Trustee, who read a letter from Mayor Jen White thanking Mr. Waymon for his contributions to the community; and Yuhanna Edwards, City Council President of Mount Vernon, who brought a certificate of commendation from Mount Vernon in recognition of the period that Mr. Waymon lived there.  Visit the photo gallery.
